Racism and new inequalities in contemporary Italy

After the analysis of the impact of recent economic crisis on social citizenship and on immigrant workers, the article examines the escalation of racism in Italy as factor of production and reproduction of new social inequalities. In particular the study focuses on the causes (historical-cultural, political, social, economic), on the forms (‘administrative’ racism, selective racism, the industry of contempt, racialized representation of public images of immigrants, securitarian politics and identity policies) and the consequences (the impact on social work, the effect on the structure of inequalities, the support to shaping a racial inequality) of the rise of racism occurred in the frst decade of the XXI Century
