The essay examines the recollection of childhood memories in two contemporary novels: in Irish Murdoch's "A Word Child" and Ian McEwan's "The Child in Time". The two novels are analyzed in their existential and phenomenological approach to childhood as a way to re-establish the potential fulness of being lost in adult everyday life, through renunciation to chronological time and a return to a qualitative kairos.
