This introduction represents a partial reconstruction of the history of watercolour painting in Britain and abroad through some of its protagonists' works and themes. It also describes some of its key materials and techniques, referring to artists such as Blake, Turner, Lear, Sargent, Homer, Ruskin and Jones. A multidisciplinary approach has been used in order to show that this art, at least in Britain, has been practiced and favoured by poets/artists and artists/poets.
