The research conducted on Venetian sources - used by Marco Besso in preparing his work on proverbs – requires systematic clarification, as do his method and his cultural project on language. The author focuses on the personality of Besso, who was influenced by the literary milieu surrounding him, first when living in Trieste, and then in Venice. However, the analysis of some examples and the quality of the written survey is validated by several recent paremiological and lexicographical publications.
