This chapter describes the rationale behind a training session in assessment for teachers attending the updating course in ELF methodology, New English Landscapes, which followed the survey reported on in the first part of this volume. In particular, it outlines the input provided by the trainer, and the output produced by participants, as a take home task, for which participants were invited to adapt existing grids to make them more ‘ELF aware’. The chapter concludes with a reflection on the shortcomings of the session (which was limited to four hours) and suggestions for a more complete course to prepare teachers for assessing ELF. Abstract
