This contribution, in its first part, consists of a commentary on the places in Book X of Augustine's Confessions dedicated to the theme of memory. In Augustine, memory is a figure that is articulated in different dimensions and levels. Memory as a psychic faculty can be distinguished in its sensory, imaginative, affective, and intellectual levels. But memory as a psychic faculty is an expression of a broader capacity of the human animus, which is the intuition of the infinite. And this is the further and all-encompassing dimension of memory, which makes it the place of confrontation - theoretical and existential - with God. In the second part, the contribution reconstructs the different senses of the word "infinite" in Augustine, and the connection between them.

Abstract
This contribution, in its first part, consists of a commentary on the places in Book X of Augustine's Confessions dedicated to the theme of memory. In Augustine, memory is a figure that is articulated in different dimensions and levels. Memory as a psychic faculty can be distinguished in its sensory, imaginative, affective, and intellectual levels. But memory as a psychic faculty is an expression of a broader capacity of the human animus, which is the intuition of the infinite. And this is the further and all-encompassing dimension of memory, which makes it the place of confrontation - theoretical and existential - with God. In the second part, the contribution reconstructs the different senses of the word "infinite" in Augustine, and the connection between them.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
