I will try to analyse how Macau is an experienced space in the constitutive temporal structure of Camilo Pessanha’s historical existence, seeking to show that this “powerful” imagination, as the essayist describes it, is also constituted as a cultural force whose political vision of reality promotes the “familiar” in the different (exactly as one of those characteristics pointed out by Edward Said (1996) in the constitution of European Orientalism).

Abstract

I will try to analyse how Macau is an experienced space in the constitutive temporal structure of Camilo Pessanha’s historical existence, seeking to show that this “powerful” imagination, as the essayist describes it, is also constituted as a cultural force whose political vision of reality promotes the “familiar” in the different (exactly as one of those characteristics pointed out by Edward Said (1996) in the constitution of European Orientalism).
