Francesco Ladatte was born in Turin on 9 December 1706. His father Lorenzo Maria was in the service of Vittorio Amedeo di Savoia, Prince of Carignano. Not much is known about his education, but it is said that when Francesco L. was only twelve years old, his father was able to show the prince the first signs of his son's artistic talent. He was a very talented bronze sculptor and worked mainly between Paris and Turin, in the service of the Savoy court. His works include the sculpture of a deer on the Stupinigi palace, the bust of Victor Amadeus III in 1773 and the beautiful pendulum with The Truth Revealed by Time, signed and dated 1775. He died in Turin in 1787.
