Abstract

The regulation of the painter's craft in Venice during the Renaissance is closely linked to the life of the Arte dei depentori, which was probably founded in the second half of the 13th century. A careful and in-depth analysis of the ancient Capitolare and the 15th-century Mariegola shows the evolution of the art and the progressive transformation of the related professions. From this point of view, a fundamental contribution also comes from a couple of prints, one of which is dated 1588, used as a model to paint the eighteenth-century insignia of the guild.
