La scienza demografica tra Ottocento e Novecento

The chapter reconstructs the history of demography from its definition as an autonomous discipline in the second half of the nineteenth century until the post-WW2 period, adopting a European perspective but paying specific attention to the peculiarities that characterize the evolution of population science in Italy, especially in the last phase of the considered period.

Il contributo ricostruisce le vicende della demografia a partire dalla sua definizione come disciplina autonoma nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento fino al secondo dopoguerra, adottando una prospettiva europea ma con un'attenzione specifica per le peculiarità che caratterizzano l'evoluzione della scienza della popolazione in Italia, in particolare nell'ultima fase del periodo qui considerato.
