In considering the stages of the technological transition of glass between late antiquity and the Middle Ages, the manufacturing structures brought to light between 2006 and 2009 in Comacchio are fundamental, shedding light on the political, economic and commercial logic that guided them. The study of the glassworks at Comacchio has opened up new research hypotheses on the production and consumption of early medieval glass in the Po Valley, which between the 7th and 8th centuries seems to have taken on specific production characteristics, clearly highlighted in the types of objects produced, in the use of raw or recycled materials, in specific production supports, and in the configuration of the workshops and in the agents of production and distribution.

Abstract
In considering the stages of the technological transition of glass between late antiquity and the Middle Ages, the manufacturing structures brought to light between 2006 and 2009 in Comacchio are fundamental, shedding light on the political, economic and commercial logic that guided them. The study of the glassworks at Comacchio has opened up new research hypotheses on the production and consumption of early medieval glass in the Po Valley, which between the 7th and 8th centuries seems to have taken on specific production characteristics, clearly highlighted in the types of objects produced, in the use of raw or recycled materials, in specific production supports, and in the configuration of the workshops and in the agents of production and distribution.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
