The effects of digital transformation on language, society and communication are profound. They are of great interest and relevance for contemporary sociolinguistic research. The changes brought about by the pandemic manifest themselves in the choice of communication channels and partners, and in the development of communication processes. Also large parts of communication have experienced a shift in meaning: communication has become politically charged and contributed to the (further) polarization of societies. The general question of whether the pandemic has caused social change can therefore be answered in the affirmative. For this reason alone, there will be no return to the kind of communication that was practiced before the pandemic. In general, there can be no “return to normal” because such normality never existed. Language, this is a truism in sociolinguistics, is constantly changing, because language is continuously used and changes steadily as an effect. The effect of the pandemic is not a change per se but an acceleration of change.

Abstract
The effect of the pandemic is not a change per se but an acceleration of change.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
