The modern Egyptian protagonist of the story meets an ancient Egyptian carrying a huge Pharaonic chair in a crowded square in downtown Cairo. The study offers a brief account on Pharaonism to introduce the themes addressed in this allegorical tale that returned to the fore in October 2010, when a short film based on it won best satire at the American International Film Festival. Moreover it was considered prophetical, once mass protests against the Mubarak regime started in Egypt on January 25, 2011, becoming the second revolt of the "Arab Spring".

Abstract
This essay is focused on Hammàl al-karàsì (The chair carrier) a short story written by Egyptian writer Yusuf Idris in the aftemath of the Naksa, i.e., the 1967 Arab defeat. The author conveys both a critique of Nasser's regime and a sense of frustration. Moreover it was considered prophetical, once mass protests against the Mubarak regime started in Egypt on January 25, 2011, becoming the second revolt of the "Arab Spring".I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
