Muḏakkirāt daǧāǧah is a Palestinian novel originally published in Arabic in Cairo in 1943. Ishaq Musa al-Husayni wrote the text in Jerusalem in 1940, i.e. when Palestine was under British mandate and World War II was raging. The novel is a modern diary-form fable and an allegorical tale which has been interpreted in very different ways. This essay dwells on the limits of interpretation to explain the debate that aroused in 1943 regarding the meaning of certain passages of the text. The study analyses the themes adressed in the novel, focusing on feminism and pacifism. It also offers notes on the language and style of the text as well as on the Italian translation thereof.
