This dossier brings together contributions from seven scholars in Italian or English who address from different perspectives the main issues concerning the presence of dance and performance within museum spaces. The essays offer a wide range of reflections ranging from problematizing the museum as an institution in profound transformation to issues related to representation, and from reactivation to documentation and preservation of a choreographic or performance heritage to read across the board a phenomenon that in these early years of the 21st century has taken on obvious dimensions and stimulating debates among artists, curators and scholars.

Abstract

This dossier brings together contributions from seven scholars in Italian or English who address from different perspectives the main issues concerning the presence of dance and performance within museum spaces. The essays offer a wide range of reflections ranging from problematizing the museum as an institution in profound transformation to issues related to representation, and from reactivation to documentation and preservation of a choreographic or performance heritage to read across the board a phenomenon that in these early years of the 21st century has taken on obvious dimensions and stimulating debates among artists, curators and scholars.
