The ancient Altinum, before being a Roman town, was an important town belonging to the Venetic culture. This article reviews briefly the records in the Venetic language, which consist in more than sixty votive and funerary inscriptions from sixth to second century B.C. The inscriptions show an interesting use of Venetic writing, because of the presence, joint to the local script, of the oldest Venetic alphabet and the Padua alphabet. Through the inscriptions the contact between different peoples (Veneti, Celts, Romans) is also investigated.
