La grande e discussa questione sul valore filosofico dello Zarathustra di Nietzsche tiene occupata la ricerca nietzscheana da decenni. Secondo Claus Zittel se ne verrebbe a capo andando ad indagare le forme estetiche della sua rappresentazione. E questo non per una pura ragione di forma o di gusto, né per dare ancora una volta la visione di un Nietzsche ambiguo e poco preciso filosoficamente perché “distratto” dalla poesia. Claus Zittel ambisce a collocare con maggiore esattezza la ricerca della rappresentazione estetica del testo forse più controverso delle opere nietzscheane e fonda la sua interpretazione sul fatto che, conciliando considerazioni di tipo letterario e filosofico, gettando luce le une sulle altre, si raggiungono dei risultati che discostano da quelli ottenuti dalla ricerca separata delle due discipline. Così parlò Zarathustra non costituisce una ricaduta su posizioni antecedenti a quelle critiche da parte di Nietzsche, bensì ne dimostra la trasformazione riuscita e coerente in una nuova forma estetica. La critica estetica toglie altresì il terreno sotto i piedi a quelle interpretazioni che, in particolare, si dedicano alle supposte dottrine o miti dell’ultimo Nietzsche, come quelle del superuomo o dell’eterno ritorno.
