DIDD AL-ISLAMOFOBIA. AL-ONSORIYA DIDD AL-MUSLIMIN FI OROPA WA ATHARUHA AL-IJTIM'AIYATI (Against Islamophobia. Anti-Muslism Racism in Europe and Its Social Consequences)

Islamophobia is not a new phenomenon. It has deep and multiple roots that sink into Europe’s centuries-old colonial past (and this past constitutes one of the secrets of the current expansive force of Islamophobia). However, in the past two decades there has been a jump in quantity and quality of Islamophobia, so that it has become the most acute and most widespread form of racism of our time, the spearhead of state racism, the most acidic expression of institutional racism of the neo-liberal era. So much so that today Islamophobia has become one structural component of western societies, a constitutive aspect of the activities of various social institutions, such as state structures, mass media, parties, and a structural element of the system of inequalities.

L’islamofobia non è un fenomeno nuovo. Ha profonde e molteplici radici che affondano nel plurisecolare passato coloniale dell’Europa (e proprio questo passato costituisce uno dei segreti della attuale forza espansiva dell’islamofobia). Tuttavia è indubbio che negli ultimi due decenni si è verificato un salto di quantità e di qualità dell’islamofobia, sicché questa è divenuta la forma più acuta e più diffusa di razzismo del nostro tempo, la punta di lancia del razzismo di stato, la più acida espressione del razzismo istituzionale dell’era neo-liberista. Tanto che oggi l’islamofobia è divenuta una componente strutturale delle società occidentali, un aspetto costitutivo delle attività di diverse istituzioni sociali, quali le strutture statali, i mass-media, i partiti, e un elemento organico del sistema delle disuguaglianze.
