This paper proposes a multi-variate method to analyse urban squares in the ancient Near East, based on the case study of Ugarit in the 13th century BC. Sets of material correlates in terms of urban configuration, architectural forms and archaeological parameters are defined and discussed with reference in aprticular to ceremonial and market squares.
