This is an introduction to the forum on "American Studies and Italian Theory" that I edited for RSA journal (Rivista di Studi Americani). It discusses contributions by Italian philosopher Roberto Esposito, leading Americanist Donald E. Pease, and critic and philsopher Peter Carravetta. It makes a case for a strong connection between the recent phenomenon of Italian Theory and the metamorphosis of the field of American Studies into a hospitable space of passage and transit for new critical thought.
