The investigation deals with Book III of Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics. At the center the concepts of will, choice, responsibility, dealt with in reference to the text of Aristotle and to the secondary literature relating to the three specific issues. It follows that responsibility can be defined in reference to the way in which the will, anchored to desire, is consciously controlled by the socially educated rational man who decides its practice. A proposal of this type shows a certain neutrality with respect to the determinism and 'free will' problem. In fact we can conceive that it may be in some way 'determined' that a rational man is free to want what he wants and that, consequently, he is responsible for it (primarily causally).

9-12) e la temperanza, σωφροσύνη, (capp. 13-15).
