Giacomo Leopardi's work is characterized by brief texts. This paper highlights and examines some relevant moments of his thinking on the subject of literary brevity and short forms, with particular attention to the decade between the Discorso (1818) against Romanticism and the Crestomazia (1827) dedicated to prose. The objective of the essay is to point out the material to test the consistency, the relationship between Leopardi's poetic ideas and the production of the Versi and the Canti, and the short tales and dialogues of the Operette.
