The article presents a reading of the brief interviews contained in David Foster Wallace’s short story collection Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (1999) in the light of the homonymous film (2009) written and directed by John Krasinski. The film represents an opportunity to reflect on Wallace’s highly experimental text and on one of Wallace’s most cherished themes—male-female relationships. The contrastive analysis demonstrate the systemic and phantasmagoric nature of this relationship.
