Valorization of agro-industrial byproducts and wastes holds significant potential to increase sustainability of food systems. Utilization of complete material streams for production of animal feed, energy, compost and/or specific consumer applications is already widely implemented and experiences further dissemination. Fractionized valorization in biorefinery approaches is an emerging field aiming at significantly increased overall efficiency of resources utilization. Such strategies are particularly suitable for material streams occurring in relation to industrial food processing. A focus on functional food highlights the wide variety of possible applications
