The history of arebica, a writing system consisting in modified Arabic characters used for writing the Bosnian language, represents a valuable case of contact among different writing systems and languages which took place in the territories of Bosnia and Herzegovina after the beginning of the Ottoman domination. An emphasis on its role is achievable considering the development of aljamiado literature and the preservation of Bosnian language itself, through the analysis of some examples taken from the versified Bosnian-Turkish dictionary Makbûl- i Ârif written by Uskufi in 1631, as well as some verses written by the poet Abdulvehab Ilhamija at the beginning of the 19th century. A considerable importance must be given also to Mehmed Džemaludin Čaušević's orthographic reform of the writing system during the Habsburg occupation of Bosnia.

Abstract
A considerable importance must be given also to Mehmed Džemaludin Čaušević's orthographic reform of the writing system during the Habsburg occupation of Bosnia.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
