Contrastive studies on word formation in Spanish and Italian have noted how difficult it is to form general principles when comparing derivational processes in these two closely related languages. Our work aims at shedding some light on this apparent chaos. The goals are twofold. First, we are concerned with some methodological reflections about the best way to search for systematic principles and predictive generalizations on an empirical basis. Second, through a case study, we address postverbal (or regressive) nominalization processes in both languages (brincoalzo, cambiocambiamento) from a comparative and contrastive point of view.

Abstract
Contrastive studies on word formation in Spanish and Italian have noted how difficult it is to form general principles when comparing derivational processes in these two closely related languages. Our work aims at shedding some light on this apparent chaos. The goals are twofold. First, we are concerned with some methodological reflections about the best way to search for systematic principles and predictive generalizations on an empirical basis. Second, through a case study, we address postverbal (or regressive) nominalization processes in both languages (brincoalzo, cambiocambiamento) from a comparative and contrastive point of view.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
