This paper retraces the history of the early research on the prehistoric megaliths known as "vishaps", or "dragon stones", conducted by N. Marr and J. Smirnov in 1909-1910 in the Geghama Mountains, Armenia. It also presents a synoptical table of all vishaps observed in the Geghama Mountains in the period stretching from the first exploration by Marr and Smirnov in 1909 to the survey of L. Barseghyan, Z. Khachatryan and A. Kalantaryan in 1963.
