This contribution examines the Filioque controversy during the reign of John II Komnenos (1118-1143), a period of growing contacts between the Greek and Latin churches. By looking at the dialogues written by Niketas of Thessalonica and the treatises by other Komnenian theologians, it traces the changing approaches – and their tools – to the procession of the Holy Spirit, bringing to light new aspects of the religious policy of the Komnenian dynasty and of the 12th-century Byzantine theologians.

Abstract
This contribution examines the Filioque controversy during the reign of John II Komnenos (1118-1143), a period of growing contacts between the Greek and Latin churches. By looking at the dialogues written by Niketas of Thessalonica and the treatises by other Komnenian theologians, it traces the changing approaches – and their tools – to the procession of the Holy Spirit, bringing to light new aspects of the religious policy of the Komnenian dynasty and of the 12th-century Byzantine theologians.File in questo prodotto:
