Italo Lana, who taught Classical Philology and Latin Literature at the University of Turin between 1956 and 1991, progressively devoted his academic career to the diffusion of classical literature by making it accessible to a wide range of people, with a special interest in how classical texts were translated into Italian. The evolution of his activities as an academic, as well as of his own style of writing, is analysed in order to highlight his point of view on the relationship between the Classics and us.
