The paper elaborates on the literary representation of Publius Vatinius, a prominent contemporary of Caesar and Cicero, starting from Cicero's "In P. Vatinium testem interrogatio" and post-Caesarean "Bellum Alexandrinum", down to later historiographical accounts, namely Velleius Paterculus'. In the light of the development of his literary memory, some basic issues are addressed concerning conflicting individual memories between the time of late Republican civil wars and the early Principate.

Abstract
