A decision support system for the ship traffic management in the port of Venice

We describe the development and present some applications of a Decision Support System (DSS) for the management of vessel movements in the port of Venice.

We describe the development and present some application of a Decision Support System (DSS) for the management of vessel movements in the port of Venice. In recent years, the Venice Port Authority (PA) has been called to make important strategic decisions on the future organization of the harbor. Furthermore, the main operators in the harbor have felt the necessity of upgrading the port information system with a tool promoting a collaborative decision making. Within this context, the DSS has been used, on one side, to support the PA's strategic decisions, on the other side, to prove the feasibility of the upgrading of the information system.
