The section of the article written by S. Riccioni (pp. 141-150) is an edition of and commentary on the altar inscription. The "mise en page" of the text, its palaeographical characteristics and its connection with the image of a head on the sculpted door, which evokes the head of St. Savin contained in the reliquary altar, demonstrates that the altar was constructed during the tenth century, after Alberic’s donation of his paternal residence to Odo of Cluny.

Abstract

The section of the article written by S. Riccioni (pp. 141-150) is an edition of and commentary on the altar inscription. The "mise en page" of the text, its palaeographical characteristics and its connection with the image of a head on the sculpted door, which evokes the head of St. Savin contained in the reliquary altar, demonstrates that the altar was constructed during the tenth century, after Alberic’s donation of his paternal residence to Odo of Cluny.
