Its introduction describes some of the challenging theories published in 20th century, and focusses on some of the protagonists of the translation theory and practice. All the other chapters are dedicated to specific cases, and analyse both the achievemnts of various translators of poetry and the work spent on translating their own poetry: morgan/alexander/pound on the anglo-saxon elegies; geoffrey hill; hugh macdiarmid; the editing of south african anthologies and the translation of south african poetry. a large bibliography is given at the very end of the volume.
