Archival documentation from over 30 local institutions (parish and monastic churches, guilds and confraternities) is used as sample material for the purposes of creating an overall picture of music-making in Paduan churches from the 16th century to the early 19th-century Napoleonic suppressions. Data regards the more-or-less permanent musical 'cappelle', the functions of music on the most solemn feasts, music-making during Advent and Lent, the activities of the principal 'cappelle' in the many 'minor' churches, repertories and performing ensembles.

Abstract
