The essay records the presence of Petrarch’s poems in the fourth division of the "Pωεtica" by G. G. Trissino. The references to the poems are evaluated for each of the metres analysed in the treatise (sonnet, ballad, canzone, madrigal, serventese), in order to define how those patterns influenced both the metrical theories that can be found in the "Pωεtica" and the composition of "Rime" and "Sophonisba". Moreover, the essay points up the elements of originality in Trissino.

Abstract

The essay records the presence of Petrarch’s poems in the fourth division of the "Pωεtica" by G. G. Trissino. The references to the poems are evaluated for each of the metres analysed in the treatise (sonnet, ballad, canzone, madrigal, serventese), in order to define how those patterns influenced both the metrical theories that can be found in the "Pωεtica" and the composition of "Rime" and "Sophonisba". Moreover, the essay points up the elements of originality in Trissino.
