Through the presentation of newly found works, the essay reconstructs the early phase of the activity of the Venetian portrait painter Tiberio Tinelli, corroborating the assertions of seventeenth-century critics (Ridolfi and Boschini) regarding his apprenticeship to Leandro Bassano. A comparison is then proposed between his works and an important portrait, long considered lost, by Alessandro Varotari known as il Padovanino.
