Professor GiuseppeTucci was the founder of Italian Archaeological Mission to Pakistan (Swat) in 1955. Tucci's seminal works on Swat (written between 1940 and 1977) are collected in the volume On Swāt: historical and archaeological notes, re-edited and printed for the first time in Pakistan. The book was originally published in another form (edited by P. Callieri and A. Filigenzi) by the Istituto Italiano per l’Africa e l’Oriente (IsIAO)/Italian Archaeological Mission in Pakistan, in 1997 but was never distributed in Pakistan The volume contains 15 works of Tucci, an introduction by Domenico Faccenna, a biographical note by Luciano Petech, an obituary article by Maurizio Taddei, and the article by P. Callieri titled ‘Giuseppe Tucci as archaeologist’.
