The critical digital first edition of the Summa de officiis ecclesiasticis of William of Auxerre constitutes the first text-critical edition of a Latin work that was created and published following a consistently digital methodology. A detailed diplomatic transcription of a principal manuscript witness is enriched with critical annotations using a TEI related markup language. From the source code various presentational text formats are generated and provided with interlinked facsimiles and descriptions of the textual witnesses in order to correspond to a wide range of user perspectives. This praefatio combines the contents of the philological introduction of the online edition with some updates from more recent research articles and a brief résumé on the current state of the art.
