Starting from David Foster Wallace's review to Edwin Williamson's Borges a Life and Williamson's heated response, this article reconfigures North-American postmodernists' writers' fascination with Jorge Luis Borges. Borges thus becomes the writerly canvas against which Wallace and Barth conceived their own writing as postmodernist (or post-post modernists in the former's case). Two different Borges eventually emerge as the result of the projective attempts of the two American authors.

Abstract

Starting from David Foster Wallace's review to Edwin Williamson's Borges a Life and Williamson's heated response, this article reconfigures North-American postmodernists' writers' fascination with Jorge Luis Borges. Borges thus becomes the writerly canvas against which Wallace and Barth conceived their own writing as postmodernist (or post-post modernists in the former's case). Two different Borges eventually emerge as the result of the projective attempts of the two American authors.
