The aim of this paper is to carry out an analysis of the translation into Spanish of one of Andrea Camilleri’s novels, namely, Il cane di terracotta. More specifically, we intend to explore to what extent the diatopic variety characterizing Camilleri’s novels is addressed and how the dialectal expressions are dealt with and then translated into Spanish. Within this framework, we will undertake a translatological analysis based on a contrastive approach between Italian and Spanish. So we will examine the strategies and techniques adopted in the translation process and we will make our contribution to the field of the linguistic variation applied to the Translation Studies.
