American Phantasmagoria: Modes of Representation in US Culture. In honor of Alide Cagidemetrio

This volume brings together a number of essays on American history, culture and literature, explored from different angles. It covers figures and authors ranging from the nineteenth century (P.T. Barnum, F. Douglass, H. James, H. Melville, M. Twain and others) to the twentieth century and beyond (D. DeLillo, T.S. Eliot, R. Frost, F. O’Connor, D.F. Wallace and others). The title of this collection pays homage to the inspiring work on ‘phantasmagoria’ carried out by Alide Cagidemetrio, former professor of American Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, in whose honor this book is published.
