Eduardo Mendoza: retratos de Barcelona. La reinvención de la ciudad

In 2016 the Barcelona City Council organized an exhibition in the Palau de la Virreina entitled Barcelona. The metropolis in the era of photography, 1860-2004. Some of the photographs on display seemed to be taken out from Eduardo Mendoza's novels. The photographs gave a precise idea of Barcelona's transformation from the nineteenth-century century until the present time. Something similar to what happens reading Mendoza’s novels, in which there are some - very few - images that serve to summarize his novels. The novel is constructed with words. The "photographic" subject of the novels of Mendoza is the language, the precise description, with attention to details: characters, situations, spaces, historical moments, are represented with fidelity, loosely inspired in a real initial motive.
