Formal social network analysis is utilised for entering into the heart of relations and social stratifications on one Italian textile community of the XIXth century (by using god-parental relation of baptism and kinship relations). Here the different features according to the resources that every family (workers, middle classes, peasants) possess are underlined. We can determine, thanks to the "centrality degree", the popularity or the social prestige. We can look at the singular role, into the social classes, of professional specialization and territorial roots. The mutual reciprocity of relational exchanges is studied to verify the importance of "social endogamy" in the choice of god-parents. The study of "closeness centrality" could develop the idea of relational strategy either in disperse or intensive way. Finally the choice of godparent in the kinship defines a particular kind of cultural practice and also the existence of hypothetical "kinship fronts". Abstract

An epistemological critique of social network use is included.
