I focus on two of the topics discussed in the volume, namely clitic omission and the acquisition of subject clitic pronouns. Clitic omission raises a number of comparative issues, while the discussion of subject clitics allows me to present preliminary data on the acquisition of Romance languages which display subject clitics, namely northern Italian dialects. Comments on the analyses proposed in the volume are presented, and some suggestions about alternative roots for explanation are discussed.

Abstract

I focus on two of the topics discussed in the volume, namely clitic omission and the acquisition of subject clitic pronouns. Clitic omission raises a number of comparative issues, while the discussion of subject clitics allows me to present preliminary data on the acquisition of Romance languages which display subject clitics, namely northern Italian dialects. Comments on the analyses proposed in the volume are presented, and some suggestions about alternative roots for explanation are discussed.
