This essay focuses on the hypothesis of the existence of a possible existence and independence of a Scottish canon which might compete against the conventional English canon. Some key authors, mainly contemporary Scottish poets, are analysed to support this hypothesis and show how a relevant number of authors belonging to different centuries could share, with other so-called post-colonial writers, themes, techniques, and styles.

Abstract

This essay focuses on the hypothesis of the existence of a possible existence and independence of a Scottish canon which might compete against the conventional English canon. Some key authors, mainly contemporary Scottish poets, are analysed to support this hypothesis and show how a relevant number of authors belonging to different centuries could share, with other so-called post-colonial writers, themes, techniques, and styles.
