The article describes the diachronic development of the distibutional properties of some wh-items in the Northern Veneto dialects from the 16th to the 20th century; on the basis of this empirical evidence, the author shows that grammaticalization phenomena can function as the trigger of a process of reanalysis leading to a change in a given derivational path.
