This research focuses on the political language of Gaetano Filangieri and on the difference between Montesquieu’s and Filangieri’s work through lexical observations. The use of the words "law", “reason”, "public opinion" in the passages in which Filangieri distinguishes his own aim from Montesquieu’s would thus be the attempt to make explicit the constant element of right [diritto, “right” or “law”], which does not change with the changing of the opinions of human beings. On the basis of this premises would it be possible to individuate - according to Filangieri - the ways by which to improve the existing laws.

Abstract

This research focuses on the political language of Gaetano Filangieri and on the difference between Montesquieu’s and Filangieri’s work through lexical observations. The use of the words "law", “reason”, "public opinion" in the passages in which Filangieri distinguishes his own aim from Montesquieu’s would thus be the attempt to make explicit the constant element of right [diritto, “right” or “law”], which does not change with the changing of the opinions of human beings. On the basis of this premises would it be possible to individuate - according to Filangieri - the ways by which to improve the existing laws.
