In this paper we try to describe some facts of the grammar of Romance languages from the standpoint of LFG(Lexical Functional Grammar), while at the same time, attempting to integrate the functional model with suggestions coming from the configurational model, here GB(Government and Binding) theory. As a consequence, the version of LFG I am introducing will be somewhat different from the one proposed in the literature: in particular, I will follow Bresnan(1982) rather than Bresnan and Zaenen(1990).

Abstract

In this paper we try to describe some facts of the grammar of Romance languages from the standpoint of LFG(Lexical Functional Grammar), while at the same time, attempting to integrate the functional model with suggestions coming from the configurational model, here GB(Government and Binding) theory. As a consequence, the version of LFG I am introducing will be somewhat different from the one proposed in the literature: in particular, I will follow Bresnan(1982) rather than Bresnan and Zaenen(1990).
